JOINING THE VINTAGE MACHINERY CLUB
SAVTEC welcomes any individual who shares a passion for old-school farming machinery, stationary engines, and classic tractors. You do not need to own a vintage machine to become an active club member. Our network provides the infrastructure and community required to keep historical engineering alive.
THE HISTORICAL JOURNEY OF OUR VINTAGE CLUB
SAVTEC was formed by a dedicated group of South African agricultural enthusiasts who recognised that essential pieces of farming history were rapidly disappearing to scrap yards. They united to create a formal network capable of protecting these historical engineering achievements.
Over the decades, the organisation expanded from a singular collective into a broad network covering ten regional branches. These groups hold regular rallies, preserving the unique mechanical knowledge required to maintain and run early tractors and stationary farm engines.
Today, the club stands as a custodian of South Africa’s agricultural machinery narrative. By connecting young mechanics with veteran restorers, we ensure that the mechanical skills and cultural heritage of our farming pioneers remain functional.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION
- Rescuing abandoned stationary engines from old farm fields.
- Restoring veteran steam tractors to full working order.
- Categorising historical agricultural implements for reference archives.
- Displaying fully operational classic machinery at public shows.
Future Goals
- Passing technical restoration skills down to younger generations.
- Expanding our regional branch network across South Africa.
- Creating a central digital archive of engine manuals.
- Hosting educational workshop days for local high schools.
